Army 7s team start preparation for the season at Rosslyn Park

The start of the Army 7s season for 2014 saw the Reds travel to Rosslyn Park for the evening’s floodlight 7s. The Army saw two teams entering the competition as one of the civilian teams had to pull out at last minute which saw one of the Army’s top Regimental teams (Royal Scots Dragoon Guards) coming over to participate in the competition.

Both teams played some exceptional rugby which demonstrated the core values of the game. Up first against the Army was London Wasps who had a number of professional players brimming with talent and winning at the final whistle 12-19, a great effort by the Reds showing a strong defence. Next up was Esher, a team that the Army has played on many occasions and truly respect on the domestic 7s circuit. This was a game where passion was on show and a game of two half’s where the Reds finally won 21-14. The final game of the pool stages was up against Ealing which saw the lead changing hands on a regular basis until the Army saw Ealing score at the final whistle to see them win 19-14.

Overall it was a great evening of rugby for all and a great training event for the team before the start of the season. Congratulations must go to Harlequins picking up the trophy, however for the Army, it was a great night having 24 players on display in front of a passionate crowd.
