BAG Dinner RFH Hosted By Wales Hooker Huw Bennett & Sean Holley

Evening raises awareness and money for Rugby for Heroes

The Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess of the QDG was the setting for the British Army Germany (BAG) Rugby’s dinner night in support of Rugby for Heroes (RFH). Over 70 guests were present at the dinner hosted by Mr Sean Holley the former Ospreys Rugby coach. The special guest was Huw Bennett the Welsh Hooker who despite recovering from surgery on his achilles journeyed from Lyon to represent the charity.

The backdrop to the dinner was a silent auction of various items of sporting memorabilia. Whilst at the table the guests were treated to a master class of after dinner speaking from Sean Holley. A mix of jokes and rugby anecdotes kept the laughter coming before Holley burst in to song using his trusty 6 string guitar.

The musical interlude helped loosen the purse strings as Holley then acted as chief auctioneer as some of Huw Bennett’s treasured rugby’ stash’ was placed under the hammer. The auction was a great success raising over €3000 for the charity.

The finale of the evening was a question and answer session from Huw Bennett on such wide ranging subjects as the Ospreys to the funniest thing he had seen on a rugby tour. Special thanks must go to both Sean and Huw for giving up their time to visit BAG but also to WOII (SSM) ‘Bongo’ Davies QDG for his superb administrative efforts.

Whilst in Sennelager, the former Ospreys player Huw Bennett made a surprise appearance at John Buchan, William Wordsworth and Robert Browning schools for a question and answer session with some very excited pupils.
