The final leg of the GB series was played in Colwyn Bay North Wales which saw the teams play for the final places within the competition and for the Reds the aim was to be the best amateur team in the series promoting the core values of the game.
First up was against Apache in the pool stages who won 33-19, both teams worked hard during the match with the rub of the green going to the opponents. Next pool match was against England IPF which saw the team step up the pressure and work rate with some great supportive play and running lines which finally saw the Reds winning 33-28.
Finally the last pool game was against Scottish Thistles, a great team that pressured from the start and tremendous phases of play that saw the family and friends of the Reds supporting the team to a win 31-19. With the pool stages over, the Reds made it to the main competition and a semi final with Wailers who were boasting a fine bounce of talented players from England’s professional leagues. Both teams battled hard which saw a great deal of passion and commitment at the break down and the possession of the ball changing hands on a regular basis. After reviewing the video and not getting the rub of the green, the Reds trailed at full time 28-21 which saw them enter the 3rd/4th play off against Scottish Thistles. This was a game that was truly made up of two half’s seeing the Red winning at the break 12-0, however the second half saw the Thistles come back into the game scoring some great tries which finally saw them win 24-17. Overall it was a great day which taught the team some lessons and got them ready for the rest of the season.
