Three days to go and they have arrived—in force.
The Royal Australian Air Force landed at Brize Norton with the Australian team on board in time to watch the Aussies thump England at Twickenham and out of the RWC. They mean business and have brought along Fiji and Tonga.
Meanwhile sneaking under the Euro-radar the Defence Blacks from New Zealand flew into Paris for a couple of quicky ‘warm-ups’. Firstly they ran in 50 points in the French capital and then met sterner opposition at Zonnebeke, near Ypres in Belgium where they participated in the Dave Gallaher Memorial Match against the Belgium National side.
Early days but the report reads:
“they run straight and off load, they ruck hard, they don’t miss tackles and kick their goals”
That is sufficient warning for the moment and they beat Belgium 28pts—25 in a cracking well supported game of rugby. Itself ominous because Belgium are very good—well drilled, hard and fit.
Team Manager Dean Fielding said “We are here to win the Defence World Cup”. Short and to the point. Interview over!
