Royal Scots 7s Edinburgh – 21 May 11
The second time the Chieftains had a run out was in Edinburgh with the Royal Scots 7s competition that saw some of the major team in Scotland along with a handful of military teams participate in what is known as one of the major 7s events in Scotland. The same as in the previous competition, this was a knock out basis which saw from the start through the wind and rain that the standard was going to be high. This saw coach Alfred making notes on the other teams and the style of play and conjuring up a plan to win.
LCpl Apo Satala nominated as the skipper lead the team for the first game which saw the mighty pillers of LCpl Joe Kava and Sikeli Ratubuli, however, the man of the tourement from the Army had to go to Spr Ben Seru, followed closely by Spr Gus Qasevakatini who juggled the try scoring tally throughout the day scoring hatrick in all but one game.
The final saw the team against an impressive Edinburgh University who lead the competition from the start with great play that was recongnised by the spectators and referees, however this didn’t phase the Chieftains lead by LCpl Apo Satala and Joe Kava whose forward skills gave a platform for the backs to run in tries from Seru, Qasevakatini and Sikeli.
This was an impressive start for the team removing the cobwebs and confirming team runs and moves ahead of the series. Thanks goes to Capt Kev Garside for his support during our stay in Edinburgh, only wish was sun for the day, rain and rugby isn’t 7s. However, what was pleasing was spotting two new players from 2 R Welsh for the start of the season.
Position – Winner
Player of the Team – Spr Ben Seru

After the final, Chieftains and Edinburgh University line up proud to be in the final
