On the 11 th January the SCOTS DG played 3 RHA in their final league fixture before the QF’s take place next week.
A similar start to the game against 4SCOTS on Wednesday saw 3 RHA looking confident up front. Their Adjutant immediately proved to be a strong runner from the back of the scrum for the Gunner’s but was just contained by an ever alert back row of Tamani, Cabemaiwasa and Ratuqalovi. Early exchanges couldn’t break the deadlock until an interception on the wing by Lt Kelly (and a previously unknown turn of pace!!) saw him run in to score from 60 metres out. A further try was scored under the 3RHA posts before half time and was dually converted to leave the half time score 14 – 0.
The second half saw SCOTS DG cut out the handling errors and began to play good rugby in the right areas of the park. Good rucking by the forwards, lead by new addition from the Light Aid Detachment Cpl Wilhoite, complemented some slick hands out wide by Matacagi and new addition to the Regiment Tpr Sokia; getting the better of their opposite numbers on more than one occasion. Tries began to come in thick and fast with players always finding someone on their shoulder to offload to. This was too much for the 3 RHA defence as they struggled to contain the SCOTS DG back line. Tries from Komaiyasa (2), Matacagi, McNeil, Taganakurukuru and Buakula meant that the final score was 52 – 7.
A more positive performance by SCOTS DG overall and a step in the right direction as attentions are turned to the Community Cup quarter final next week.
