The Army Senior Squad 2011

Season 2010-2011

Twickenham 2010The March to Twickenham has begun and Army Senior XV Head Coach Capt Andy Sanger RE is pleased to announce the Army Senior playing Squad for the 2011 Inter Services competition.

Andy Sanger commented: “The process of getting to the final playing squad of 29 from a database of 106 players has been a long, thorough and difficult process. I and my coaching staff have seen over 50 matches excluding Senior XV fixtures and we have been impressed by the talent on show in all positions ensuring that competition for places this season has been hard fought and players selected thoroughly deserve their place. The hard work starts now though, we need to avenge our loss of the Inter Services trophy last season to a committed Navy team who will be out to do the same again and with the RAF improving there will be no easy games. It is also good to see that 8 uncapped players have made the squad which has a good balance of maturity, experience and youth”

There are 8 players from last season’s squad unavailable due to operations, courses and other Army commitments and we wish them well in their duties. Cpl Melvyn Lewis, Welsh Guards, has been appointed as Skipper, his no nonsense approach to the team bodes well and is richly deserved. Lastly I would like to thank all the players, staff and ARU members for the efforts thus far and with continued improvement I am confident we can do our talents justice in the upcoming 2011 Inter Services competition.
