The Army 7’s first tournament in England in 2016 was the highly acclaimed Rosslyn Floodlit 7s, a tournament showcasing the best of the premiership clubs. There was representation from Harlequins, London Irish, Wasps and Worcester to name a few, supported by some good 7s specialist teams, such as Esher, Wailers and Jesters.
The Army’s first game was against a strong Esher team and, although close at times, the Army always looked in control.
The Army’s second pool game was against the mighty Harlequins, the winner in this competition for 4 out of 5 of the last tournaments. The game went down to the wire due to some outstanding drop kicks by the Quins kicker – Harlequins going through by 21-19.
The Army 7s team made it into the Bowl Final, where a strong London Irish side seemed the more capable of the two teams. Most of the Army team had played a full days competition the day before and the 2200hrs kick off proved a game too far on this occasion.
