The Army Rugby Union is proud to announce the appointment of Private Jonasa ‘Junior’ Bulumakau (3 SCOTS) as Head Coach of the Army U23s for the next two seasons. A familiar and respected name across Army Rugby and the wider rugby community, Junior brings with him a wealth of experience both on and off the field, and a deep understanding of the player development pathway within the Army setup.

Since transitioning into coaching in 2020 with Highland Rugby Club, Junior has quickly established himself as a forward-thinking and dynamic coach. His coaching CV already boasts an impressive array of achievements:
- Caledonia Reds Backs Coach (2023 & 2024): Helped guide the team to the Championship title in 2023 and a runner-up finish in 2024.

- Army Senior Attack Coach: Played a pivotal role in the Men’s Senior Inter Service Championship triumph in 2024.
Speaking about the appointment, Army Rugby Union Director of Rugby, Lieutenant Colonel David Falconer, said:
“Junior is a product of the Army U23 pathway, and his appointment is a fantastic full-circle moment. His deep understanding of our ethos, his professional playing experience, and his proven success as a coach make him the ideal candidate to lead our U23s. We’re excited to see how he helps shape the next generation of Army rugby talent.”
Reflecting on his new role, Junior commented:
“It’s a real honour to be named Head Coach of the Army U23s. This team was a key part of my own journey, and I’m passionate about helping young players develop both as athletes and as people. I’ve seen first hand the impact that the right coaching and environment can have and I’m looking forward to building something special with this group.”
