The Army Rugby Union staged a memorable day of premiership and community rugby on Thursday 5 February, as Aldershot Stadium and the Queen’s Avenue pitches hosted a full programme of finals action.

With five trophies decided across the day, Finals Day showcased the depth, competitiveness, and spirit of Army rugby, with narrow score lines and hard-fought contests underlining the quality on display.

Defence Academy Claim Knockout Vase

The day began at Aldershot Stadium with the ARU Knockout Vase Final, where Defence Academy edged out Pilgrims & Abbey Wood in a tight encounter. Defence Academy held their nerve to secure a 19–13 victory, setting the tone for a closely contested Finals Day.

2 R Yorks Lift Premiership Challenge

At Queen’s Avenue, 2 R YORKS produced a strong attacking performance to defeat 1 LANCS 39–27 in the Premiership Challenge Final. Both sides traded scores throughout, but 2 R YORKS’ consistency and clinical finishing proved decisive as they lifted the trophy.

Stormers Defend Premiership Shield

The Premiership Shield Final saw Stormers retain their title with a gritty 19–15 win over QRH. In a physical contest decided by fine margins, Stormers once again demonstrated their resilience under pressure to claim back-to-back Shield victories.

Lyneham Knights Edge Quaich Final Thriller

The Quaich Final delivered one of the closest games of the day, with Lyneham Knights narrowly overcoming Blandford Bulldogs 15–13. The result capped a strong campaign for Lyneham Knights, who held firm in the closing stages to secure the silverware.

RLC Redemption in Premiership Cup Final

The day concluded with the Premiership Cup Final at Aldershot Stadium, where 17 P&M Regt RLC completed a redemption story by defeating 1 PWRR 15–8. 2Lt Cannons (number 11) was named Player of the Match after scoring an incredible first-half try, helping to set the tone for his side’s victory. After last season’s final defeat, the RLC side produced a composed and disciplined performance to lift the Cup and bring Finals Day to a fitting close.

With strong rivalries, defending champions, and new title-holders crowned, the 2025 Army Rugby Union Finals Day once again proved to be a highlight of the military sporting calendar. The ARU thanks all players, officials, volunteers, and supporters who contributed to a successful day of Army rugby in Aldershot.
