Big Wow – Army Defeat England 7’s at Sarries

THE ARMY 7s team overcame England 24pts – 15 at the ‘SEVENS IN THE CITY’ competition held at the Saracen’s Allianz Park on 5 July.

This was a remarkable rugby performance against a professional side playing in the national shirt under the direction of England 7s Head Coach Simon Amor.

Although the Army had beaten SIRS by 30pts-nil they were in turn beaten 26-7 by a Samurai International outfit that has the fortune to be able to choose from the World’s best.

Great performances came from Luke Robinson (RA), Scott Watkins (R Signals) and Tams Tamatawale (RLC)

The plusses and minusses meant the Army did not make the points count-back cut for the Semi-Finals. Ironically England did and went on to win the competition final.

Army coach Alfred Vakacakavanua must have thought the glory days had returned as he remembered the day the Army beat England three times in one afternoon !!
