On Wednesday, 26th March 2025, the Army Rugby Stadium in Aldershot hosted the latest chapter in the long-standing rivalry between the British and French Army rugby teams.

While the men’s match has been a fixture for the past decade, this year marked a historic moment as the British and French Army Women’s teams faced off for the first time.

The inaugural women’s match proved to be a thrilling contest, with the British Army Women securing a hard-fought 17-14 victory over their French counterparts. Their performance demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and determination, setting the stage for future encounters between the two sides.

In the men’s match, the British Army extended their dominance in the fixture, delivering an emphatic 47-12 win over the French Army. Their commanding performance highlighted the strength and depth of the squad, continuing their strong record in this cross-border military rivalry.

The occasion was further enriched by ceremonial contributions that underscored the deep traditions of the British Army. Members of the Royal Hospital Chelsea provided a distinguished guard of honour, while the Band of the Household Cavalry performed stirring renditions of national anthems and post-match entertainment, reinforcing the sense of camaraderie and respect between the two nations.

The Army Rugby Union celebrates this historic milestone for women’s rugby and looks forward to building upon the legacy of both fixtures in the years to come.
