Army Rugby Union are pleased to announce the signing of rising rugby talent Corporal Sophie Benavent, QARANC, for the 2024/25 season. The dynamic player brings both skill and grit to the squad, having completed her first season with the Army earlier this year.
In only her third season playing the game, Cpl Benavent earned her first Army cap v England U20s back in March, marking the beginning of what was a highly impressive first season in the Red shirt. Selected in the Inter Service squad she helped the team retain their title in a thrilling campaign. Her solid contributions on the field, both in attack and defence, caught the eye of Leicester’s coaching staff, who are excited to welcome her into the fold.
Corporal Benavent’s signing marks a significant moment for both Leicester Tigers and Army rugby, as more military athletes continue to showcase their talents in the professional game. Her commitment to rugby, combined with her military background, embodies the values of discipline, teamwork, and resilience—attributes that are sure to shine on the field at Mattioli Woods, Welford Road.
