The Army Rugby Union is thrilled to share that Guardsman Manuqalo Komaitai (Irish Guards) has been named on the bench for Fijiana ahead of their international fixture against Tonga tomorrow.

This marks a huge milestone in Komaitai’s remarkable journey from Suva, to the gates of Buckingham Palace, and now onto the international rugby stage.

Just days after impressing selectors at the Fijiana trials, the Irish Guards soldier has earned a coveted place in the matchday 23—an achievement that caps off an incredible few months for the 25-year-old. Her rapid rise began with a breakthrough performance in the 2025 Inter Service Championship, where she lit up Kingsholm Stadium with four tries and a Player of the Match performance against the RAF.

Having only taken up rugby in 2021 after completing her Army training, Komaitai’s selection is a testament to her athletic ability, unshakable work ethic, and the values instilled through her service in the British Army.

Now poised to make her international debut, she carries the pride of the Irish Guards, Army Rugby Union, and Fiji onto the global stage. Should she take the field tomorrow, it will mark the next chapter in what is fast becoming one of the most inspiring stories in both military and rugby circles.

Fijiana’s fixture against Tonga is a key warm-up ahead of this year’s Women’s Rugby World Cup, set to be hosted in England. Komaitai’s inclusion not only strengthens the squad’s depth but also highlights the growing impact of Army Rugby on the international scene.

We send our full support to Guardsman Komaitai and the Fijiana team as they take on Tonga. Vinaka vakalevu, Manuqalo—you’ve made us all proud once again.
