VACANCY FOR THE ARMY RUGBY UNION DIRECTOR OF COACH DEVELOPMENT

Applications are invited for the post of Director of Coach Development for the Army Rugby Union (ARU).

It is desirable that the successful applicant will be able to start with immediate effect, following endorsement by the ARU Management Board, and complete at least 3 seasons.

The closing date for applications is 1200 hrs Fri 25th October 24. Applicants that do not pass the CV sift will be contacted by Friday 1st November 2024. Applicants that pass the CV sift will be invited to an interview on a date TBC in Nov 24 (location and times tbc).  The interview will seek evidence of previous coaching competencies.  The selection panel is provisionally planned to consist of the Chair of Representative Rugby, Chair of Community Rugby and the ARU Operations Manager.  Candidates called for interview will be notified on completion of all interviews if they have been successful or not.

QUALIFICATION, RANK AND EXPERIENCE CRITERIA

There is no particular rank required for this post. However, it is hoped that the successful applicant is able to comfortably operate with sponsors and senior officers, has knowledge and enthusiasm for the game at the top end of Army rugby and a passion for the development of the game in the ARU at the strategic level. Applicants must be able to demonstrate previous and current coaching in a high-performance environment where CPD is evident, current and supportive of understanding coaching and player development in the modern game.  Applicants will ideally hold a minimum of a Level 2 Coaching Certificate and be working towards their level 3 certificate.  In addition, the individual must be serving in the British Army with at least 3.5 years service remaining from 1 Nov 24.

 

COMMITMENT

This is a prestigious high profile voluntary post working with a very enthusiastic and dedicated Management Team. The time commitment for this post can also be demanding for both work and personal time.

 

TERMS OF REFERENCE

  • The Director of Coach Development (DoCD) is a member of the ARU Management Board and has overall responsibility for ensuring a succession pathway is in place providing the availability of sufficient level 2 coaching personnel for ARU clubs and teams.
  • The DoCD’s primary role is to ensure there are sufficient level 2 and 3 coaches to meet the needs of the ARU representative teams and the Army Units affiliated to the ARU. The responsibilities of the DoCD are listed but not limited to the following:
  • Identify talent for appointment within the ARU representative team level. Ensuring that Army personnel are trained and developed appropriately to be able to fulfil the coaching and support roles required of them at all levels;
  • Ensure there is a succession pathway of qualified Coach Educators and Trainers to meet the ARU’s commitments;
  • Ensure sufficient Level 2 courses are scheduled and financed for Army personnel to meet the needs of the ARU affiliated clubs. To include overseas courses (Cyprus etc);
  • Provide guidance on the selection of personnel for ARU financial assistance for Continuing Professional Development(CPD) e.g. Support to attend Level 3;
  • Maintenance of the ARU coaching database by ensuring a current database of qualified coaches is maintained on the Rugby Football Unions (RFU) Game Management System (GMS);
  • Produce an annual coaching and associated course yearly plan;
  • Provide the link between the ARU and RFU on community coaching and coaching course delivery matters;
  • Submit an annual budget ensuring appropriate managerial checks are adhered to;
  • Must hold at least a level 2 coaching qualification and be working towards level 3;
  • Assist in the formulation and publication of ARU policy as directed by the Chair. This should include the governance and management of the Coaching Pathway within Army Rugby.
