VACANCY FOR THE ARMY RUGBY UNION DIRECTOR OF CORPS RUGBY

Applications are invited for the volunteer post of Director of Corps Rugby for the Army Rugby Union.

The successful applicant will be expected to start on 01 Sep 25 following endorsement by the ARU Management Board.  A hand over / take over with the current Director of Corps Rugby will take place ahead of the start of the 2025/26 Season.  It is desirable that the successful applicant completes at least 3 seasons.

The closing date for applications is 1200hrs Fri 02nd May 2025. Applicants that do not pass the CV sift will be contacted by Fri 09th May 2025. Applicants that pass the CV sift will be contacted in person by Maj Marc Wilding, Chair of ARU Community Rugby and interviews will be arranged as relevant.

Following interview, the successful candidate will be notified once the Chair of ARU Community Rugby has contacted all those candidates that were unsuccessful.

QUALIFICATION, RANK AND EXPERIENCE CRITERIA

There is no particular rank required for this role, however, the applicant must be comfortable in briefing senior personnel such as Chair Army Rugby Union (OF 6).

The applicant must;

  • Have fulfilled a previous administrative role within Army Rugby Union at either Community or Representative level (Team Manager, Rugby Officer, League Secretary, Assistant Director (Corps/Unit).
  • Be skilled in the delivery of Army level sporting events.
  • Be familiar with the ARU Safety Management Plan and their role, if selected, within that.

The applicant will ideally have;

  • A passion for Army Rugby Union.
  • A strategic mindset, able to develop solutions to ensure that competitions endure and that Rugby Union is promoted within the Army.
  • Strong communication skills.

Terms of reference:

 

  1. The Director of Corps Rugby is a voting member of the ARU Council representing Men and Women’s Corps Rugby.

 

  1. The Director of Corps Rugby is a member of the ARU Community Game Board (CGB).

 

  1. The Director of Corps Rugby is to ensure that all Corps playing competitive rugby are affiliated to the ARU.

 

  1. The Director of Corps Rugby is responsible for the delivery of ARU Corps Rugby. This includes the Corps Rugby Festival, the ARU Corps Championship which culminates with the ARU Corps Finals Day.

 

  1. The Director of Corps Rugby is to manage the budget of Corps rugby on behalf of the Chair of Community Rugby. They are to update the Chair of Community rugby if there are any possible overspends throughout the season at the earliest opportunity.

 

  1. The Director of Corps rugby is to ensure that all ARU Corps events are delivered in line with the ARU Safety Management Plan.

 

  1. The Director of Corps Rugby is to provide guidance to Corps Chairs and Secretaries on ARU direction and governance.
