The Army Rugby Union is proud to announce the appointment of Lt Col Jon Lord (RAMS) as the new Director of Rugby for the Army Senior Men’s team. He takes over from Colonel Graham Taylor CBE (Late RA) who has successfully completed two seasons in the role, including leading the team through two fiercely contested Inter Service Championships.

Jon brings a wealth of experience to the position, having served as Director of Rugby for the Army 7s programme from 2018 to 2024. Under his leadership, the Army 7s established itself as a force within the UK and international sevens scene, with notable performances and consistent development of talent.

Brigadier Andy Geary OBE, Chair of ARU Representative Rugby, welcomed the appointment:

“Jon brings deep experience, a strong track record of player development and a passion for Army Rugby. His leadership of the Army 7s programme over the past six years has been outstanding and we’re confident that he will bring the same energy and strategic focus to the Senior Men’s XV. I’d also like to thank Colonel Graham Taylor for his tireless dedication and impact on the programme during his tenure.”

As Director of Rugby, Jon will oversee the development, performance and strategic direction of the Army Senior Men’s team, working closely with the coaching and support staff as they prepare for the upcoming season and the 2026 Inter Service campaign.

Speaking on his appointment, Lt Col Jon Lord said:

“It’s a huge honour to be asked to lead the Army Senior Men’s team. I’m incredibly proud of what we achieved with Army 7s, and I now look forward to building on the strong foundations laid by Colonel Graham Taylor. Army Rugby is built on commitment, camaraderie and excellence – and I’m excited to be part of the next chapter.”

The Army Rugby Union extends its thanks to Graham for his many years of dedication to Army Rugby from Unit through Corps to Army level and wishes him well upon his retirement and welcomes Jon into his new role and wish him every success.
