The Army Rugby Union (ARU) is delighted to announce the appointment of Rachael Burford as a Non-Executive Director to the ARU Management Board. A highly respected figure in the world of rugby, Rachael brings a wealth of experience as a former elite player, coach, and advocate for the growth of the game at all levels.

Burford’s illustrious career spans more than a decade, during which she earned international recognition as an international player, having represented England at the 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2017 Women’s Rugby World Cup, winning the tournament in 2014 and competing in multiple Six Nations championships. Off the pitch, she has been a trailblazer for women’s rugby, serving as a leader in governance and player development through her work with the International Rugby Players’ Association, and the Rugby players Association in England, and as the founder of The Girls Rugby Club, which nurtures young female talent in the sport.

In her new role as a Non-Executive Director, Burford will provide strategic insight and leadership to support the ARU’s mission of growing the game and fostering excellence across all levels. Her role on the ARU Board will focus on the development of the women’s game in the Army at both community and representative levels. Her extensive knowledge of the sport, combined with her passion for inclusivity and athlete welfare, makes her an invaluable addition to the Board.
