The Army U23s concluded their 2025 Inter Service Championship campaign at the iconic Cardiff Arms Park, falling 26–17 to a sharp and composed RAF side who claimed the Under-23 title for the first time in 19 years.
The match completed this year’s series, which saw the RAF open with a dominant 42–14 victory over the Royal Navy at Stourbridge on 12 November, while the Army entered the final fixture still in the hunt despite a narrow 14–16 defeat to the Navy at Burnaby Road on 19 November.
In front of a lively Welsh crowd, the opening half proved a tight and tactical affair. Both sides exchanged blows but cancelled one another out for long periods. The Army struck first through Will Sevodi, whose finish provided early momentum, but the RAF responded before the interval with a well-worked effort finished by winger Jay Smith. The sides turned around level, setting up a decisive second forty minutes.
After the break, the RAF found another gear. Fly-half Kieran Jenkins produced a standout performance, controlling territory with his kicking game and punishing Army indiscipline. His two penalties nudged the RAF ahead before he added a brilliant individual try to extend their lead. James Moseley crossed soon after, giving the RAF a commanding position entering the final quarter.
True to Army spirit, the men in red refused to fade. Their powerful carrying and relentless drive at close quarters earned two late scores to drag the contest back into reach, but the RAF held firm as the clock ran down.
A Championship Concluded
The result secures the RAF their long-awaited Under-23 Inter Service crown, completing a clean sweep following their earlier win over the Royal Navy. For the Army, the campaign showcased moments of real promise, with narrow margins ultimately shaping their results against both the Navy and the RAF.
