The Harris & Harriet Cup Festival of Rugby has once again cemented its place as a highlight of the RAMS and Army Rugby calendar, bringing together players from across the Corps for three outstanding days of rugby, teamwork and camaraderie.
This year’s festival saw one of the highest attendances in recent memory, with 46 women and 85 men taking part. The exceptional turnout created a fantastic atmosphere both on and off the pitch, highlighting the continued growth and strength of rugby within the RAMS community.
While competition for the Harris and Harriet Cups was fierce, the festival’s true success lay in the relationships built and strengthened throughout the event. Players reconnected with old teammates, made new friendships and demonstrated the values of teamwork, respect and inclusivity that underpin both military service and rugby.
A major highlight was the support of professional rugby player Joe Woodward (Leicester Tigers) and England Women’s coach James Cooper, whose expertise and guidance enhanced the experience for all involved, particularly those new to the sport.
The growth of the women’s game was especially encouraging. For the first time, Harriet Cup fixtures were played as 10-a-side matches, with live scrums throughout the competition. The record number of female participants reflects the exciting progress being made and provides real optimism for the future of women’s rugby within the Corps.
The festival would not have been possible without the dedication of the organising committee, coaches, match officials, Long Eaton Rugby Club, Forces Mutual, and the Chain of Command, whose support helped make the event such a success.
