LCpl Lloyd Wheeldon (PARA) helped Doncaster Knights sign off from their Championship season in winning style on Friday night.
The scrum-half followed up his performance in the Inter-Services Championship opener with a try-scoring outing off the bench at Lady Bay.
Doncaster had headed to Nottingham knowing that a bonus point win was the only result that mattered to maintain pressure on Ealing at the top of the table. In the end the 26-5 win achieved what Doncaster wanted, but was ultimately in vain as Ealing saw off Richmond on Saturday to confirm the league title.
LCpl Wheeldon was sent into the fray with 10 minutes remaining, and it took him just seven minutes to get on the scoresheet with his team’s fourth and final try, breaking off a driving maul to find a gap and a run to the uprights.
On Saturday Pte Ratu ‘Siva’ Naulago’s (Yorks) return could not help Bristol Bears snap their three-game losing streak which preceded their Premiership trip to Northampton.
Pte Naulago impressed during the opening half-hour, making powerful runs and a try-saving intervention by ushering the ball into touch close to the Bears’ line.
Unfortunately, he left the action early, which impacted Bristol’s efforts at Franklin’s Gardens, and the visitors headed home on the wrong side of a 39-22 final score.
LCpl Semesa Rokoduguni (SCOTS DG) had been in line to start for Bath in their Premiership trip to Exeter, but was ruled out on the day of the game due to illness and missed the 42-22 loss.
