Both Harlequins and Wasps won their respective final games in the Premier 15s league campaign this past weekend, setting up a semi-final which is likely to pit Army team mates up against each other.
Harlequins went into Round 18 in pole position to secure the home semi-final, two points ahead of Wasps in the table, but they needed a win away at DMP Durham Sharks to seal the deal.
Bdr Bethan Dainton (Royal Artillery), Capt Alexandra Eddie (QARANC) and Sgt Jade Mullen (AGC (SPS)) were all on the bench for the trip north, and all saw action on the field as Harlequins comfortably saw off the league’s bottom-placed club, 67-0.
Any doubts about the eventual result were quickly cast aside as Harlequins ran in for six tries in the first half alone, adding a further five in the second period to finish the regular season in perfect fashion.
For their part Wasps – who had SSgt Sarah Mitchelson (RLC) among their replacements – did everything they could to maintain the pressure on their London rivals, beating Bristol Bears at Twyford Avenue.
Bristol included Capt Gemma Rowland (Royal Artillery) in the centres, but the Welsh international could not stop the hosts scoring 10 tries overall, three of which came in the opening 10 minutes.
Bristol did score a try in each half, but they did little to stem the largely one-way traffic, the score ending 62-12 in favour of Wasps.
Harlequins and Wasps will go head-to-head at the Twickenham Stoop on Saturday, May 22nd, KO 12:30. Tickets for the game are now available via the Harlequins website.
