{"id":28268,"date":"2023-11-18T12:22:48","date_gmt":"2023-11-18T12:22:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.armyrugbyunion.org.uk\/?p=28268"},"modified":"2023-11-18T12:22:48","modified_gmt":"2023-11-18T12:22:48","slug":"army-masters-v-pacific-islanders-match-reaction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.armyrugbyunion.org.uk\/army-masters-v-pacific-islanders-match-reaction\/","title":{"rendered":"Army Masters v Pacific Islanders Match Reaction"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\t\t<div id=\"fws_664055280ac76\"  data-column-margin=\"default\" data-midnight=\"dark\"  class=\"wpb_row vc_row-fluid vc_row\"  style=\"padding-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; \"><div class=\"row-bg-wrap\" data-bg-animation=\"none\" data-bg-overlay=\"false\"><div class=\"inner-wrap\"><div class=\"row-bg viewport-desktop\"  style=\"\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"row_col_wrap_12 col span_12 dark left\">\n\t<div  class=\"vc_col-sm-12 wpb_column column_container vc_column_container col no-extra-padding inherit_tablet inherit_phone \"  data-padding-pos=\"all\" data-has-bg-color=\"false\" data-bg-color=\"\" data-bg-opacity=\"1\" data-animation=\"\" data-delay=\"0\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"vc_column-inner\" >\n\t\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t\t\n<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \" >\n\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t<p><strong>The Army Masters began their 2023-24 Season campaign with a hard-fought 25-7 win against Pacific Islanders at Haslemere RFC last weekend.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Red Shirts skipper WO2 Vasa Bai chose to play up the hill on a sodden pitch, and it was the Islanders who started strongly, pinning their opponents in their own 22 in the early stages.<\/p>\n<p>However, some superb defence came to the fore and eventually Maj Robert Mitchell (RLC) was able to clear the Army lines.<\/p>\n<p>Both sides cancelled each other out until the 29<sup>th<\/sup> minute, at which point it looked like scrum half WO2 Chris Harris (R Welsh) had put the Masters in front with a drop goal.<\/p>\n<p>However, it was deemed the referee had already blown up for a penalty \u2013 Mitchell making no mistake with the three points.<\/p>\n<p>He doubled the tally with another penalty shortly afterwards, and then added the extras after replacement WO2 Tuvita Tamatawale (RLC) crossed the whitewash for a 13-0 interval lead.<\/p>\n<p>The Pacific Islanders again came out of the blocks fast in the second half, this time taking their opportunity by scoring a converted try following some poor tackling in midfield.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Masters\u2019 scrum \u2013 a big weapon throughout the contest \u2013 continued to remain on top and the Red Shirts regained control with a sumptuous try, a cheeky through-the-legs pass freeing Sgt Muskwe (RAPTC) to touch down on the left wing.<\/p>\n<p>Mitchell converted for 20-7, and a further gloss was put on the scoreline late on as LCpl Brown hoovered up a 30-metre Harris grubber kick to cross on the right.<\/p>\n<p>The reigning Inter-Services champions Army Masters are next in action against HM Prison Service at Glamorgan Wanderers RFC on Wednesday, December 6 with kick off scheduled for 1400hrs but may be subject to change.<\/p>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"divider-wrap\" data-alignment=\"default\"><div style=\"margin-top: 12.5px; height: 1px; margin-bottom: 12.5px;\" data-width=\"100%\" data-animate=\"\" data-animation-delay=\"\" data-color=\"extra-color-1\" class=\"divider-border\"><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \" >\n\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t<p>Words \u00a9 Richard Ashton<\/p>\n<p>Header and featured images &#8211; Alligin Photography \u00a9 Cat Goryn<\/p>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\t\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div> \n<\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Army Masters began their 2023-24 Season campaign with a hard-fought 25-7 win against Pacific Islanders at Haslemere RFC last weekend.
