Corporal Jane Leonard (Team Captain) – Royal Engineers

This is Jane’s second season as Captain for the Army Women; she has also been the Captain for the Combined Service’s Women’s squad for the previous two seasons. Jane has been playing rugby since she was 17 years old and has been hooked since. Jane has had a very successful rugby career with 9 caps playing for England 15s and 25 caps playing for England 7s. Jane has also been a committed Wasps player for 8 amazing years. In Jane’s spare time she enjoys listening to classical music and taking long walks along the beach or within a forest, and hopes one day to own a little Westie to walk with her. Jane is a huge fan of Saints and of course ‘the mighty England’.

Jane’s aim for the season is; “To develop and strengthen the depth of existing players and to make it as enjoyable as possible. Also to spread the rugby love to heighten interest within the Army for women’s rugby and aim to win Army team of the year”.

Corporal Bianca Dawson

CORPORAL BIANCA DAWSON – ROYAL MILITARY POLICE

Bianca (Bee) first played rugby when she was 15. Sadly she stopped due to a background in and talent for Association Football. Many years on Bee finally saw the light and in 2011 played her first season for the AGC and the Army team. Over a short period of time Bee has developed dramatically as a player and is a natural with ball in hand regularly crashing through waves of opposition. Even though she is a prop, Bee is of the new breed and has often been seen sprinting up the wing from her own 22 to score a try. If Bee is not playing then she is watching rugby. Bee is a huge fan of Harlequins and is Joe Marler’s number one fan. Bee also enjoys going to the cinema, mainly to watch a chick flick or an emotional tear jerker.

Major Charlotte Maxwell

MAJOR CHARLOTTE MAXWELL – ADJUTANT GENERAL’S CORPS

Known to her friends as ‘Charlie’. Charlie has been a vital part of the front row and has been in the Army team for quite sometime and her knowledge of the game is an asset to the squad. Her low centre of gravity and aggressive running makes her a hard player to tackle. Charlie has played rugby since she was 18 years old and since then has played for many different clubs and currently plays for Wasps. Not only is Charlie a hard worker on the pitch, but also has an important role as the Women’s Corps Director and last season being involved in the Combined Services Management. In her spare time Charlie enjoys hill walking with her wife Maxine and their two dogs Tipsy and Daisy or spending time in front of the log fire snuggling up to her cat Keo.

Major Jenny Connell

MAJOR JENNY CONNELL – ADJUTANT GENERAL’S CORPS

Jenny started playing rugby when she was 18 years old. Jenny’s dad loved rugby, so she always wanted to join a club, so went on play for Reading University rugby team; “I believe being part of that team created some of my happiest university memories”. This will be Jenny’s second season with the Army and has fitted in well with the squad and shows plenty of potential on the pitch. Jenny has a passion for baking and decorating cakes.

Lance Corporal Stacy-Lee Fortune

Stacey’s love for rugby inspired her to start playing when she was 16 years old. Stacey took a season out from rugby to have a baby, but is now back looking for some action on the pitch. Stacey is also a motor head, spending her free time watching formula 1 or anything involving cars. Stacey supports a mixture of rugby teams, her favorites being the Springboks, Scotland and Bedford Blues.

When Sarah was 13 years old she wanted to play a team sport with great camaraderie, which is why she chose rugby. Sarah’s talent was noticed at a Corps training day and was immediately picked up by the Army Squad. Sarah is a strong versatile player and has made an impact to the squad. This will be Sarah’s second season and we look forward to seeing her crash through the opposition. Sarah’s favorite sporting moment was winning the BUCS Championship Final at Twickenham Stadium with Leeds Met and playing her first Army Vs Navy in May 2014.

Sergeant Rae Metters

SERGEANT RAE METTERS – ROYAL ELECTRICAL MECHANICAL ENGINEERS

Rae started playing rugby when she was 17 years old and has been addicted ever since. Rugby is a way of life for Rae and she feels that there is no other sport with the same values, camaraderie and spirit like rugby. “I will play until I can’t play anymore”. Rae has been with the Army Squad for a number of seasons and brings plenty of experience to the pitch. Rae likes to stay fit with crossfit and enjoys going out for long runs. In her free time Rae likes to travel back to Cornwall, eat peanut butter and watch family guy whilst snuggling up to Barry her French bulldog.

SERGEANT ROSIE HAIGH – ROYAL ELECTRICAL MECHANICAL ENGINEERS

Rosie started playing rugby in 2008 while she was attending her Phase 2 training. Rosie’s rugby skills have rapidly developed and she now has huge amounts of experience, which she has used to great effect captaining the Combined Services Squad in 2010. Besides rugby Rosie captained the England Kabaddi Team in 2011/12 during the World Cup in India. Rosie loves spending time on her family farm riding her horse Joules. If she’s not outside you will find her in the kitchen with a cake in the oven putting Mary Berry to shame.

Heidi started playing 5 years ago when she was dragged to a training session and hasn’t looked back since. Heidi is an enthusiastic and energetic player with experience and a strong understanding of the game. Heidi missed out on playing for the Combined Service’s (CS) last season due to her work commitments. Heidi is looking to have a successful season and hopes to be called up for the next CS game. Heidi’s favorite sporting moment was playing her first Army Vs Navy game last season.

Ellie also known as ‘Egg’ started playing rugby when she was 10 years old mainly because she enjoyed traveling and making new friends. This will be Egg’s first Inter-Services season with a Combined Services and Army cap already under her belt. Egg was spotted while still in phase 2 training and was immediately called up for Combined Services. Egg shows plenty of potential with her strong dynamic running and her experience within the pack. In her spare time Egg likes watching rugby with her friends and is a big supporter of Northampton Saints.

Chelsey is fairly new to the rugby scene and only started playing 3 years ago. Her dominant sport growing up had been football, however once she joined the army she wanted to try a new sport and found a new love for against the RAF. She is now looking forward to the Navy game and continue her success within the Army squad. Chelsey is a keen athlete and when she is not playing rugby she takes part in football and netball. She also enjoys spending time with her family, playing both football and rugby with her nephew and niece. When Chelsey is not involved in a sporting event, she likes to go travelling and experience different cultures around the world.

Corporal Tara McGlade

Tara started playing rugby when she was 18 years old. Tara started playing rugby because she enjoyed the social events as well as doing something active of a Sunday afternoon. Tara also enjoys weight lifting and crossfit, which she finds improves her as a player. Besides fitness Tara enjoys her cooking, giving Gordon Ramsey a run for his money. Tara enjoys watching rugby just as much as playing, with her favorite team being England.

No first name required and simply known as ‘Magic’. Despite hailing from South Africa and coming from a rugby loving family Magic only started her rugby playing career when she joined the Army and has been capped for both the Army and Combined Services only missing out on one season and a tour to Australia due to deployment to Afghanistan on HERRICK 16. Currently recovering from a serious ACL injury this season Magic has enhanced her rugby portfolio by embracing the role of Media Manager and has set her goal on CS selection in November 2015. In her spare time Magic likes to travel, socialise, read and loves going to the theatre; once fully fit she will be undertaking various Tough Mudder events.

CAPTAIN ERICA MILLS – ROYAL ARTILLERY

Erica also known as ‘kiwi’ started playing rugby because she wanted a change and to try a new sport. Kiwi brings plenty of moral to the team with her enthusiasm and humor. Once on the pitch Kiwi delivers strong running lines and is always there is support. She brings game knowledge and confidence to the pitch. Kiwi relishes in a good social and can guarantee to find a microphone in her hand singing along to whatever’s on. If she is not playing rugby or socialising kiwi loves the outdoors, horse riding or doing a WOD in the crossfit gym.

LIEUTENANT JADE BINSKIN-BARNES – ROYAL LOGISTIC CORPS

Jade was only 7 years old when she started playing rugby. She started playing rugby because her mum thought it would be great for her fitness and to make friends. This will be Jade’s second season with the squad and she has brought copious amounts of rugby knowledge to the team. Jade is an effective attacking player and a big hitter in defense. Besides rugby Jade also plays netball and likes to go sailing. When Jade gets time off work she likes to travel, experience new adventures and explore different cultures.

Corporal Louisa Steer

Lou started playing rugby 7 years ago when a friend suggested that she came along to a game and she has never looked back since. Lou enjoys rugby for; the team bonding, the social events and of course the game itself. Lou started playing for the Army team a couple of years ago and has become as asset to the squad. She is a strong versatile player, full of enthusiasm both on and off the pitch. Lou likes to keep busy in her spare time with either watching Game of Thrones or doing a bit of cross stitch in her spare time. Lou has a keen interest in history and culture, which often takes her around the country visiting castles. Lou’s favourite sporting event was being selected and playing Combined Services rugby last season.

Sergeant Sarah Mitchelson

Sarah also known as ‘Huddy’ started playing rugby when she was 15 years old. Her influences were from a friend and Huddy hasn’t looked back since. Huddy is a dedicated Army player being the first Soldier from the RLC to receive 25 caps. This shows her dedication to rugby and also to the team. Huddy is a role model and a leader both on and off the pitch, her commitment to the game influences the new generation coming through. Huddy brings copious amounts of experience to the squad, having been Captain for both the Army and Combined Services for a number of seasons, before stepping down to have her beautiful daughter Poppy. Huddy loves a good social and spending time with her family and friends. Huddy’s most memorable sporting moment was when the Army team beat the Australian Combined Services team in Sydney.

CAPTAIN GEMMA ROWLAND – ROYAL ARTILLERY

Gemma first started playing rugby when she was 15 years old, first playing 7s rugby and then her first ever 15s game was at the U20s England Trials. She played at Exeter University for three years until her graduation. Gemma’s rugby career has blossomed, and she is now a regular player for the Army, Combined Services and her Premiership club London Wasps. Gemma has now taken her rugby career even further receiving her first International cap for Wales, in the game defeating England. Gemma enjoys returning to her 7s roots and will often be seen representing the charity 7s team, The Moody Cows through the summer months.

SERGEANT AMY ROBINSON – ROYAL MILITARY POLICE

Amy started playing rugby when she was 7 years old. Amy grew up playing rugby league and only later when she was 20 did she play her first union game. The skills Amy has developed from league has made Amy a strong versatile player. Amy has plenty of game knowledge and understanding, reading the opposition and spotting the gaps before they even appear makes Amy a huge threat to the opposition. Amy likes spending time with her family and friends and is currently learning to play the guitar.

Private Kayleigh Clemes

Kayleigh started playing rugby because she grew up watching it and has always had a love for the sport, so when given the opportunity to play she couldn’t say no. Kayleigh has been playing for 8 years on and off due to work commitments. This will be Kayleigh’s first season with the Army squad and is keen to make an impression on the pitch. Kayleigh had played a few games during the opening season and her ball handling skills and game awareness has noticeably improved stepping her in the right direction for the Inter-Services games. In her downtime Kayleigh enjoys chilling at the beach and catching a few waves on her board.

Lieutenant Alex Harrison-Wolff

Alex started playing rugby when she was 16 years old. Alex was influenced by her dad to play as he’s a huge rugby fan. Alex enjoys playing mainly because it is a contact sport and enjoys the adrenaline rush she gets from playing. Alex also enjoys the social aspect of rugby and having a few cheeky beverages after the game. This is Alex’s second season and so far has made an impact to the team in more ways than one. Alex is a terrier on the pitch always looking to take down the biggest player without flinching. Alex’s most memorable sporting moment would be; playing her first inter-service game against the RAF and scoring two tries.

Maz Started playing rugby when she was 22 years old. Maz is originally from South Africa and has grown up around rugby, so it was a no brainer when she wanted to play a team sport. Maz took a couple seasons out due to a severe ankle injury she suffered whilst on the Australian Rugby tour, but is now back and this will be her first Inter-Service games. Maz brings copious amounts of game experience and knowledge to the squad, which she has gained from playing 10 years with Cheltenham Tigers and watching rugby all her life. Maz enjoys spending time with her family and taking her new puppy Porridge for long walks. Maz loves a good social, watching rugby with her friends, having a few drinks or doing both at the same time.

Captain Gemma Stonebridge-Smith

Gemma also known as ‘Smudge’ started playing rugby when she was 16 years old. Before rugby Smudge played football, but decided to make a change as she found herself progressing further as a rugby player. Smudge has the hard job of keeping the forwards at bay, but somehow manages with little effort. Smudge is unable to play this season due to work commitments, but is eager to return next season and we are keen to have her back. Smudge is an asset to the squad both on and off the pitch. In her spare time Smudge loves to get creative, making stuff out of wood or doing a bit of DIY around the house.

Captain Verity Skinner

Verity first started playing rugby when she was 13 years old. Verity saw her younger brother playing mini rugby and from there was interested in the sport. Verity is in the Army Reservists, with her main job as a Tree Surgeon and Business Manager of the company. This keeps her very busy, yet she still makes time to play rugby. Verity is our second Army Reservist to receive an Army cap, as this was only brought in two seasons ago that they could play Inter-Services rugby. This will be Verity’s first season and so far has been an influential player with plenty of potential. In her free time Verity enjoys going on long walks with her fiancé and their two dogs Murphy and Jack

Nicole started off as a Netball player and at 17 decided to give rugby a try and has loved it ever since. Nicole is a versatile player and can play just about every position in the backs. Even though Nicole might be small she is a force to be reckoned with, taking on players twice the size of her and will still go back for more. Besides rugby Nicole likes to go rock climbing and bouldering. To keep her busy in the evening Nicole enjoys going to the Theatre to see a show.

Bombardier Katie Garside

BOMBARDIER KATIE DANIELS – ROYAL ARTILLERY

Katie first started playing rugby when she was 11 years old. She went along with her brother to rugby and he influenced her to play. Katie is a very experienced player in both union and league. Katie is known for her strong running lines and big hits. Katie also has plenty of game knowledge and experience from playing both union and league which can be seen on the pitch. Katie is a big rugby league fan with her favorite team being Leeds Rhinos. In her spare time Katie like to take her two dogs Woody and Jessie out for a run.

Chantelle only started playing rugby 3 years ago and she has already seen success, receiving an International cap for Wales. Chantelle is known for her speed and power, give her an inch and she’ll sprint a mile, causing havoc in the oppositions’ defense. Chantelle has a bright future in her rugby career and is one to watch out for. In her spare time Chantelle cannot think of anything more fun than running a Tough Mudder or anything that involves a challenge and an obstacle or two.

Corporal Carrie Roberts

CORPORAL CARRIE ROBERTS – ROYAL ELECTRICAL MECHANICAL ENGINEERS

Carrie started playing rugby when she was 19 years old mainly because she wanted to be involved in a team sport as she enjoys bonding with the players. Caz plays both Rugby Union and Rugby League and currently plays for Thatto Heath St Helens and for the England Rugby League Academy. Caz is a strong and rapid player who will happily carve up the opposition’s defense all day long. In her spare time Caz enjoys movie nights with her ‘frenchie’ (dog) Winston.

Jade first started playing rugby when she was 17 years old, mainly because she enjoyed watching the sport and wanted to try it. This is Jade’s first season with the squad and is very excited for the Inter-Services games. Jade is a strong player with lots of potential to develop into a great player. With a few more games to build her confidence she will be unstoppable. Jade likes to play football with her friends and also enjoys taking her four dogs for a walk.

Gunner Jessica McAuley

GUNNER JESSICA MCAULEY – ROYAL ARTILLERY

Jess started playing rugby when she was only 8 years old. Jess has played for a vast number of rugby clubs in Wales with her last being Newport Gwent Dragons. Jess might be small but she is a pocket rocket not to be messed with and her lightening quick feet causing chaos amongst the opposition. Jess likes to keep active so if she’s not playing rugby she enjoys indoor rocks climbing and a bit of badminton on the side.

Corporal Dani Phan

CORPORAL DANI PHAN – INTELLIGENCE CORPS

Dani first started playing rugby when she was 19 years old. Dani was originally in the REME and found there was no women’s team, so went on to start a women’s team in the corps. Dani is known for running impossible lines, carving up the oppositions’ defense and leaving them stunned. Dani is unable to play this season, but is looking forward to returning next season and cause havoc for the opposition. When Dani is not busy with work, she loves to travel and seek new adventures. Danu has a 1 year old Spaniel called George, “who is as nutty as they come”.
