Ticket information has been released for the 2022 Mobbs Memorial Match, the first to be played after a three-year absence.

The Army Senior Men’s team returns to Franklin’s Gardens, home of Northampton Saints, to play the East Midlands on Wednesday, April 13th, for a 1930hrs kick off.

This is the first time that the Army will have played the East Midlands in this fixture, with the hosts having previously played the Barbarians in the Mobbs Match annually until 2011, after which the Army played Northampton and Bedford in alternating years.

The Match honours the memory of Edgar Mobbs, a World Rugby Hall of Famer and a legend of English rugby. Born in Bedford, Mobbs captained Northampton, England and the East Midlands, and represented the Barbarians during his illustrious playing career.

Then as a Colonel in the Army, he was wounded three times, mentioned in Despatches twice and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order in 1917. Col Mobbs died in the Battle of Passchendaele in July 1917 aged 35, and while his body was never found his name lives on, both on the Menin Gate and in one of rugby’s most historic fixtures.

“The Mobbs Memorial Match has a special meaning for Army Rugby, and I’m delighted to see the ticket information being announced for this year’s match,” commented Men’s Senior Head Coach, Capt Mal Roberts (RLC).

“With this year’s match falling right between our two Inter-Services Championship games it will play an important role in helping us continue momentum in a busy period and I’m looking forward to taking the squad back to Franklin’s Gardens, which is always a great place to play.”

Ticket prices are £10 for adults and £5 for juniors and concessions, including serving Army personnel.

Tickets are also on sale for the Army’s trip to Coventry on Saturday, March 5th.

The Championship side was the Army’s last opposition before the Covid-19 lockdowns in 2020, and the teams put on a thrilling display of entertainment on Butts Park Arena’s state-of-the-art artificial playing surface, and with both teams setting out their stall already this season with exciting and attacking rugby this match is likely to provide more of the same.

Kick off will be at 1500hrs and tickets are available for just £5 for adults and £3 for Under-16s.
