As we approach Christmas, may I reflect upon the first half of the season. Firstly, many congratulations to our U23’s on winning their Inter Service Championship this season. I was delighted to see so much talent, from all parts of the Army, play with style and humility.

We can all look forward to the Senior Women’s and Men’s fixtures in May next year – you can get your tickets for the matches at Twickenham HERE

I was very proud to be part of a celebration of 25 years of Women’s rugby in the Army and the retrospective award of over 35 caps to former players who had not been recognised with caps at the time. It was a smashing evening at RMAS, and my personal thanks to Lt Col Ann O’Flynn and her team for organising the evening.

I was equally proud of the Army players, coaches and match officials from the Army that supported the IDRC in France. The 3rd place was well earned and hard fought.

I am looking forward to watching more Corps rugby in the new year, and there is a chance I’ll put my boots back on for the Gunner Sapper match (please don’t I hear you say) but what’s one more game at my age! The work of Major Marc Wilding REME in delivering the most important level of rugby in the ARU is key to keeping the Game alive in our cap-badges – we are all extremely grateful for the work Marc does with Major Jase Lowe RLC.

And, on January 10th I am looking forward to watching the inaugural 1st Division v 3rd Division Teamwork Cup. Bringing together the two fighting Division in a women’s and men’s rugby match should be the start of a great tradition of competitive sport between the two formations.

My priorities remain; playing and training within the values of our Game – namely Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship. Secondly, developing and nurturing the next generation of rugby players. Thirdly, winning.

Thus, have a wonderful Christmas celebration with your family and friends, stay fit and injury free and if you get to watch, play, officiate or administer some rugby so that others enjoy our wonderful sport – thank you.
