Bdr Bethan Dainton (RA) continued her streak of tries this past weekend, crossing for a brace to help Leeds Rhinos confirm top spot in their Challenge Cup pool.
The back rower had showed her pace in scoring four tries at Twickenham, and she demonstrated more of the same with just a couple of minutes on the clock by running in from halfway to the uprights.
There was more to come later in the half, Bdr Dainton going the full length of the field for her second, and she showed her dexterity with ball in hand by setting up Leeds captain Hanna Butcher with an offload.
Leeds’s 52-0 win puts them into the quarter finals with plenty of momentum behind them, and there is the opportunity to watch Bdr Dainton and her colleagues live on Sky Sports this coming Friday, May 26, when they welcome St Helens to Headingley in the Super League. Kick off is 1730hrs.
Elsewhere Cfn Solodrau Radianirova (Scots DG LAD REME) was part of the Fiji squad which reached the final of the London 7s at Twickenham.
Cfn Radianirova played in the pool matches against Argentina and Japan, and was on the bench for the knockout games versus Australia, New Zealand and Argentina again in the final.
The semi-final against the All Blacks was particularly memorable, with an epic last few minutes that saw possession exchange hands repeatedly and Fiji snatch a win in the penultimate play of the game.
However Fiji found the Pumas to hot to handle, Argentina running out 35-14 winners in the final.
There was also a tough afternoon for Spr Lauren Brooks (RE) and her Harlequins team mates in the Premier 15s on Sunday.
Gloucester-Hartpury have been a surprise of the season, and they showed why they are deserved table-toppers with a 67-14 win over Harlequins at Kingsholm.
Spr Brooks started in the back row for the 2021 champions, who had had such a good day in Gloucester when they won the title two years ago. But with two matches to go in the current campaign they have it all to do to get back into the play-offs, with Harlequins nine points behind Bristol in the league and needing results to go their way.
