Both matches featuring Army senior women in the Premier 15s this weekend ended in wins for the red shirt players.

Pte Courtney Pursglove (RLC) had been rewarded for a try scoring cameo in Round 1 with her first start for Sale Sharks’ Round 2 trip to Worcester. The Sharks would have been expecting a tough afternoon against a Warriors outfit which had downed Harlequins in Round 1, and so it proved in the first half, as the home team built up a 17-3 lead going into half-time.

But after the break the momentum shifted completely, as Sale scored two minutes into the second half, then twice more before the hour to make the scoreline 24-17. The final 20 minutes were tense, but Sale held out what was thrown at them to finish with the win and be one of only three unbeaten teams heading into December.

Also on Sunday, Spr Lauren Brooks (RE) was in the Harlequins’ starting line-up for their trip to Franklin’s Gardens to face Loughborough Lightning.

Unfortunately Spr Brooks was forced from the action after just 25 minutes due to injury, with her team 5-0 up. Harlequins scored a second try before half-time to lead 12-3, and then overcame a pair of yellow cards in the space of three second-half minutes and a fourth-quarter fightback from Lightning to get their first win of the season, 24-15 the final score.
