The dust may have settled on the 2020/21 Premier 15s campaign, but the rugby still goes on for some of the Army’s Senior Women this weekend.

Harlequins duo Bdr Bethan Dainton (Royal Artillery) and Sgt Jade Mullen (AGC (SPS)) are on national duty with Wales Sevens as they head to Lisbon for their first tournament of the summer.

For Sgt Mullen the selection is her first for Wales, and comes at the end of a campaign where she – like Bdr Dainton – was a regular in the match day squads of the eventual Premier 15s champions.

Wales have set their sights on qualifying for the 2022 Commonwealth Games and view this weekend’s Rugby Europe Sevens Championship Series opener as the first step on the journey.

“This campaign presents an opportunity to qualify for the Commonwealth Games and we’re really lucky to be in this position,” says Head Coach Warren Abrahams. “We have got to take this opportunity with both hands.

“I’m always confident of these girls and although we had some tough times during the Six Nations campaign this group has a hell of a lot of potential. That potential is what fuels us and we are making sure our players are in the best possible position for these two games against Poland and Belgium on day one.”

Nine nations are in Lisbon for the tournament, with Wales playing Poland at 1022 and Belgium at 1222 – both games being shown live on www.rugbyeurope.eu/rugby-europe-tv

Pool A – Russia, Germany, Romania

Pool B – Poland, Belgium, Wales
