The Army Senior Men finished off a challenging training week with a narrow loss to BUCS Super Rugby outfit, Cardiff Met.

It came at the end of a few days in which the Army squad trained with Harlequins, and leads into this week’s final preparation ahead of the 2022 Inter-Services Championship opener against the RAF this coming Saturday.

It was a close-run match on the Friday afternoon, too, and with tries from Bdr Lee Westwood (RA), Bdr Connor O’Reilly (RA) and Capt Will Reeve (HQ 4X) – all converted by 2Lt Matt Smart (Yorks) – the Army led 21-17 at the break.

However a pair of yellow cards in quick succession opened things up for Cardiff Met, who scored three tries to give them a 34-31 final result.

“The game was really competitive and after a long training week it was the test we needed going into Inter-Services,” commented Head Coach, Capt Mal Roberts (RLC).

Elsewhere Gnr Senitiki Nayalo (7 Para RHA) continued his scoring streak with the first of six tries run in by Coventry in their Championship clash with Jersey Reds at Butts Park Arena.

The big back rower powered his way through a couple of tackles close to the Jersey try line to open Coventry’s account. Unfortunately Jersey were on top form at the other end of the field, scoring 10 of their own to head home with a 66-38 win under their belts.

Tickets for the 2022 Inter-Services Championship matches against the RAF (March 26th, Kingsholm) and the Navy (April 30th, Twickenham) are now available.
